User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Too Green
Better Homes and Gardens has recently started getting a little too Environmental for my taste. If I wanted to know about all the lastest Green products and how to reduce my carbon footprint and all I would by a magazine about that. I just want to know about garden layout, perennials, how to make tasty dinners and desserts, and decorating my house. I am not going to be trading in my 77 cub cadet for an electric push mower any time soon.

1 Star can’t get any info about my subscription!
I ordered the two year plus the free recipe book. I have received nothing and the check was cashed over 2 months ago. Any email address for Better Homes and Garden does not work! Then when you call they say they don’t have any record of my subscription, but I should be receiving my magazine in March!

5 Stars Took 2 months, but finally received 1st issue
Bought this subscription for my wife as a Christmas stocking stuffer 12/12/2008. She received the first issue today 2/19/2009. It was a good deal, just do not expect it to appear in your mailbox anytime soon after purchase.

5 Stars consistently good
First, wanted to comment on the fact that i didn’t know amazon.com had magazines. it was a nice surprise and i will use them again. Secondly, Better homes and Garden consistently has great issues with information that everyone can use. I love the recipes and the creative ideas.

5 Stars Better Homes & Garden review
I am unhappy that I ordered this in November and I am still not receiving the subscription.

3 Stars Not as good as it used to be
I remember reading this as a kid when it was smaller in size, came every month and was absolutely packed with pages on everything. It was fun to read all the ads and it took a real long time to read alll the articles. It’s full size now, comes every two months. Although the main article in my first issue was timely (poppies), I just wasn’t impressed with the mag.

5 Stars Organic Gardening
I love this magazine. It has so many great tips. I wish I’d subscribed to it earlier. Although I’ve only received 2 copies, my husband and I have read them cover to cover. Can’t wait to get the next one.

4 Stars Great supplement for the organic gardener.
Sometimes the small gardener, the home gardener needs some help. This magazine provides easy to understand how-to’s and good reviews and information on planting and nurturing plants depending on area, weather, etc.

I would highly recommend it!

5 Stars One one wish
I’ve always loved organic gardening magazine, however, I wish I could have purchased a gift subscription through Amazon. That did not show to be a possibility.

5 Stars Great value!
Organic Gardening/Rodale Press has always given the public great value for our money. A winning magazine that’s chock full of information. Love it!

5 Stars Best Magazine Ever
This is my favorite magazine of all I receive. The information is so useful and easy to understand. I will never give up this magazine!

5 Stars Mother Earth News 1 Year Review
Getting near the end of the first year of the subscription. Well worth the price and has not disappointed.

4 Stars Great magazine overall
As I’ve enjoyed living-off-the-land kinds of stuff since I was a teenager, this magazine was an amazing find in my early 20s only to find out my mother had been reading it for years! Their articles are interesting, inspiring, and encouraging. I think a lot of their ideas are very do-able, although some are difficult if you don’t have the land. The only negative thing I’d have to say about it is that some of their issues/articles seem a little redundant. Overall, though, I enjoy reading these issues, some of them over and over. They really appeal to the earth roots personality.

5 Stars I will subscribe for many may years!
This magazine is amazing. There is so much information on every page. I am new to organics, kind of, so I am still learning about everything. This magazine is great to have for reference and before you buy a house read it so you don’t spend thousands on a regular house when you could build it so much cheaper with alternative methods- that are much prettier too.

5 Stars I love Mother!
Mother Earth News has helped us make the change from matrix-dependent suburbanites to off-the-grid organic farmers. I’ve been reading Mother since the early 70’s. Now we’re teaching our neighbors about things like Rainwater Harvesting, a vital activity in drought-ridden California.Rainwater Harvesting for Drylands (Vol. 1): Guiding Principles to Welcome Rain into Your Life And Landscape

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Perfectly Controlled Western Dreamscape
California- it’s got the largest population for a state in the U.S. Having lived elsewhere and now call this state home, Sunset magazine has quite a lot to work with, but they are content churning out boring, formulaic drivel. The whole magazine feels about as un-organic as something could be and seems to read and look like something from a focus group meeting. Let’s see- an article about green living, a focus on a cute taqueria close to but not in the ‘hood, the best small towns in the west (Just add Bozeman, MT, Jackson Hole, WY, Bend, OR, and a town by the redwoods and one in the desert 200 miles from Phoenix and blend well, stir, shake, re-use concept for 10 years). Then a few quick reader recipes for sushi breakfast bars. Don’t forget an architectural piece on a five trillion dollar home in the East Bay with eco-friendly bamboo flooring, purposeful spaces, and mindful use of recycled materials. There is your year’s subscription in a nutshell. Other magazines do the clutter-free life, contemporary fusion cuisine, and architecture and design better than “Sunset”. It’s like a hopelessly out-of-touch junior high school kid trying on every trend and fad with hopes of fitting in and being accepted. It doesn’t work. Be original. It never fails.

3 Stars Great Magazine
This is a wonderful magazine for those who live out west or in the mountains. Good articles and columns on travel, gardening and decorating. Similar to Midwest Living and Southern Living. Makes a good gift for friends and family who live in the west.

4 Stars Great Resource
Since I always browse through it in the checkout aisle, I thought I’d commit for a year and subscribe. The first two issues haven’t disappointed, with hidden gems in western towns and great backyard ideas.

5 Stars My Favorite Magazine
When living in Oregon, I couldn’t wait for the Sunset to come .

Now I am living in Southern CA. in the desert and I still love

the magazine, but, wish there were more articles on gardens here.

I always pass my Sunsets on to friends and family.

5 Stars The Gift that Keeps on Giving
I bought this subscription for my mom for Christmas. What I love about it is its a gift that goes all year long. Shes always bought Sunset here and there but now its delivered to her home every month. Whats even more nice is that she tries all the great recipes and I reap the benefits!
